LYNNE THIGPEN

Lynne Thigpen was an American actress who was mostly known for her portrayal of “The Chief” of ACME in the various television series and computer games Carmen Sandiego from 1991 to 1997. Thigpen’s career started on stage in 1971, where she had a long and prolific career. She appeared and starred in multiple musicals, including Godspell, The Magic Show, Working, The Night That Made America Famous Tintypes, and An American Daughter. For the last one, the actress won a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play for played a black Jewish feminist.

She played several different roles in numerous films and television shows such as a nurse in All My Children, an attorney in L.A. Law, and Lynne in the film version of the musical Godspell. Thigpen also recorded over 20 audiobooks and appeared in radio skits like The American Radio Company of the Air, a Garrison Keillor program. In 2003, Thigpen lost her life at the age of 54.
