CHARLOTTE GAINSBOURG
Daughter of Serge Gainsbourg and Jane Birkin, Charlotte was born in London. She got her first role, at the age of 12, in Elie Chouraqui’s film “Paroles et musiques”, in which she played the daughter of Catherine Deneuve. Then Charlotte Gainsbourg became interested in song and performed a duet with her father “Lemon incest” (1983). In 1985, she received the César for Most Promising Actress for her role as a rebellious girl in Claude Miller’s “L ‘effrontée”. In 2000, she received the César for Best Supporting Actor for “La Bûche”. In 2001, she starred in “My wife is an actress”, directed by her husband Yvan Attal, whom she met at age 19.
In 2009, Charlotte presided over the 34th Cesar ceremony alongside Sean Penn and received the Best Actress Award at the Cannes Film Festival that same year for her role in Lars von Trier’s controversial film “Antichrist”. She also released her third album “IRM” before interpreting in 2010 the role of a widowed mother in Julie Bertucelli’s moving film “The Tree”. In 2013, Yvan Attal made a public marriage proposal to his partner for twenty-two years when he received the Order of Merit. Together, they had three children: Ben, born in 1997, Alice Jane born in 2002 and a little Joe, born in 2011.
