Bernie Mac was a well-respected comedian back in the day. He was born Bernard Jeffery McCullough and grew up in South Chicago. He met Rhonda, his wife, when they were very young. They saw each other for two years before deciding to tie the knot in 1977. They had their first child, Je’Niece, a year later. They were already a great couple way before Mac got into the spotlight. In order to support his family and pay their mortgage, he worked various jobs as a restaurant manager, a truck driver, a basketball coach, and a mover. Meanwhile, his wife worked as a nurse.

The comedian’s untimely passing in 2008 was a huge blow to everybody, but most especially his wife. The couple would have been married for 31 years at the time. In an interview with Rhonda, she said that the pain that she went through when her husband had gone never really left, even though it got better over time.
